Montalto Marche, 2021. On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Pope Sixtus V’s birth, the mayor oh his native village hires a religious musicals’ author from Marche, Angelo Santini. The Mayor asks him to realise a show based on famous events of Pope Sixtus’s life.

Angelo chooses one particular event to base the musical on, under the heavy supervision of the village’s priest, and names it “Acqua alle corde”. It’s based on the famous event of the obelisk of St. Peter’s square.

The mayor insists on this show having a big appeal and requests that Angelo find a theatre company famous enough to catch media’s attention. So Angelo hires a musical group that, despite being really high level, disrupts the religious spirit of the works and makes it more absurd and funny. This creates as a consequence big tension in the small village.
